Eating Out

The Peat Inn
The Peat Inn is owned by award winning Chef and columnist Geoffrey Smeddle and his wife Katherine. With Geoffrey at the heart of the kitchen and Katherine’s warmth and care filling the restaurant, they have been successful in building on the very fine reputation of one of Scotland’s most cherished destinations. The Inn has existed on this spot since the 1700s. Today, this award winning restaurant with rooms continues to welcome guests who appreciate the special and very personal experience which is the hallmark of The Peat Inn.

The Cellar
Tucked behind Anstruther’s Scottish Fisheries Museum, just off the harbour front, you enter this 17th century, listed building via a pretty cobbled courtyard garden, before receiving a warm welcome from owners Peter and Susan Jukes. With its original beams, tiled floor and candle-lit tables, the dining room provides the perfect setting for a great night out. In winter open log fires add to the cheer. The service led by Susan is impeccable yet unstuffy, while Peter’s cooking blends accomplished sophistication with skilled simplicity, treating fresh, seasonal produce with due respect. There is no over elaboration, so flavours are clean, sharp & really shine. The Cellar itself has been both a cooperage and a smokery for Anstruther’s herring fishing industry and Peter’s nod to this illustrious past is an appetiser of marinated herring – something he has been doing for 27 years!

Pittenweem Inn
Pittenweem Inn is located in the lovely East Neuk village of Pittenweem, famous for its fresh fish and the yearly World renowned Pittenweem Arts Festival. Pittenweem has a picturesque working harbour and daily fish market where you can watch the fleet leaving or coming home with their fresh catch of Scottish shellfish as well as a number of galleries and craft shops. Pittenweem is a welcome port in the fife coastal path which starts at the river Forth and works its way right up to the river Tay. There are also boat trips to the Isle of May National Nature Reserve from nearby Anstruther. Our most convenient airport is Edinburgh only 60 minutes by car and our nearest train station of Leuchars 25 minutes away also there is plenty of local and express bus services connecting fife and beyond, Dundee is also only 50 minutes by car.
